Book Awards
The Collection Development Committee not only works with collections that are donated to our library, but also gets to purchase books. When one of our members reaches the age of 90, the member can choose a book for WVGS to purchase – the book gets presented at a monthly Membership meeting, BUT then the book goes back to the library to be accessioned into our collection for all of us to use.
Please remember the only way we know when YOU have your 90th Birthday, is from the information YOU give to WVGS when you join…SO please update your information online with your birth year, and so we can celebrate you with a wonderful genealogy book too!
Dave McIntire

At the Janaury 12th meeting the CDC presented Dave McIntire with a great book.
Dave, when asked where he is from, answers, “I’m a Midwesterner. I was born in Michigan and lived there as well as in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Illinois.”
Dave is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, Duluth, and the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. He was director of benefits for International Multifoods, General Mills, and Waste Management during his working career.
Upon their retirements in 1998, Dave and his wife, Leilla, became “snowbirds” for 13 years, splitting time between suburban Minneapolis and Westbrook Village, Peoria, Arizona. Dave became a member of the West Valley Genealogy Society not long after arriving at Westbrook Village. Dave lives in Scottsdale now.
Dave is a direct descendant of Micum McIntire, a Scottish prisoner of war, who was sent to Boston aboard the sailing ship “Unity” in 1650-1651 and was sold as an indentured servant. Micum gained his freedom after 7 years of indentureship and settled in York, Maine. Dave is a member of the Micum McIntire Clan Association, and he attended the MacIntyre World Gathering in Oban, Scotland in 2018.
Dave’s book choice is appropriately,
“The Involuntary American, A Scottish Prisoner of War’s Journey To The New World,” by Carol Gardner. He hopes that some Scottish WVGS members, and others, will enjoy reading the book.
