This class focuses on the basics of organizing your genealogy research. We’ll cover filing systems, genealogy software, research plans and how to develop a system that meets your needs and reflects how your brain most easily finds things.

Please bring your laptop or tablet if you have one. If you have a Pedigree Chart or Family Group Sheet for your family, bring them so you can apply what you learn to your own research. If you don’t know what those are or don’t have them yet, that’s fine—you do not need them to attend the class.

This class focuses on identifying, locating, and extracting information from the most used and useful records for discovering your ancestors. We’ll cover census and vital records and their repositories, review home sources, and briefly discuss the wide variety of other records available.

Then make sure you specify the full name of the person and their date of death when you checkout. Note: Members can search for all the names in our Obituaries and can download the obituary of interest for free.

Navy blue lunch/tote bags with the WVGS logo are available at the Library. The bags are insulated. The top zips so your items will not “spill out” or “get lost.” This item must be picked up at the WVGS Library after ordering. Lunch/tote bags are also be available at the Membership Meetings.

Metallic insulated hot/cold drink tumbler, 17 oz. This item must be picked up at the WVGS Library after ordering. Tumblers are also be available at the Membership Meetings.
