Genealogy 101: Foundations for Research - August 2024
This class is designed for those with less than 3 years experience but anyone who wants to review the basics of how to find and compile information about their ancestors is welcome. Completion of the Novice Genealogy class or equivalent is recommended.

Topics include understanding family trees, ancestor charts, and family group sheets; setting research goals; finding and using records and sources (online and elsewhere); documenting search results (research log); an overview of the concept of genealogical proof; and avoiding common mistakes.

Optional “homework” assignments are included — be prepared to spend a few hours each week between the sessions to complete the assignments. The 3rd session is a free, more informal session to focus on and ask questions about researching your own family; you will leave that session with a plan for what to do next.
