Family History: How Do I Get Started?
Family History: How Do I Get Started?
This class is designed for beginners, but others who want to review the basics of how to find and compile information about their ancestors are welcome. Topics include understanding family trees, ancestor charts, and family group sheets; setting research goals; finding and using records and sources; documenting search results (research log); and avoiding common mistakes.

“Homework” assignments are included — be prepared to spend a few hours each week between the sessions to complete the assignments. The 3rd session is a free, more informal session to focus on and ask questions about researching your own family; you will leave that session with a plan for what to do next.

DNA Painter Workshop
DNA Painter Workshop
The DNA Painter website has tools that help visualize and analyze both your DNA results and your family trees. This workshop will explore these tools to help you determine which ones will be helpful to you. We will look at the purpose and uses of the selected tools and demonstrate briefly how data and information are entered.

There are no requirements for this workshop, but participants should be aware this class will not focus on understanding DNA test results. The DNA Painter website has some tools that do not require any DNA results. Other tools require DNA data from DNA sites with a chromosome browser while some will also work with Ancestry DNA.

To get the most from the workshop, bring your laptop or tablet.
