Book Awards

When one of our members reaches the age of 90, they get to choose a book for WVGS to purchase. The book gets presented to them at a Monthly Membership meeting, then the book goes back to the library to be accessioned into our collection.

The only way we know when you have your 90th Birthday is from the information given to WVGS. Please remember to login and update your information online.

Evelyn Ferrara

At the December 8th meeting, the CDC presented a book to Eve (Evelyn) Ferrara, who was born on December 23, 1935, to William Rowlands and Gwendolyn Williams. Both 100% Welsh parents in Waukesha County, Wisconsin. She married Joseph Ferrara in 1961 and has 4 sons.

She arrived in AZ in 1976, when her Uncle Dave offered his house while they traveled.

She worked in accounting for Digital Corporation and in Home Healthcare in Phoenix.

Her husband was the 13th heart transplant recipient at University Hospital, Tucson. He lived three and a half more years and passed away in 1985. Her son, Anthony, passed away in 2021 from Covid.

She became interested in finding her Father’s side of the family, which led her, first, to LDS people and then to WVGS. She has loved her time with WVGS and feels we are lovely people who helped her find both Welsh and Sicilian Ancestors.

Evelyn selected the book “Wales, the Welsh and the making of America” by Vivienne Sanders.
