On April 10th, a party was held at the Library to celebrate one of our longest serving and most impactful volunteers, Roger Hanneman. He has led the Computer Equipment Committee for its entire existence. You can find details of his service in Tidbits this month. The gathering was made special as his wife, three daughters and son-in-law were there to celebrate with him.

It was a chance to reminisce about how we each met Roger and good as well as tough times at WVGS – from how we bought the Library and set up the computer lab to the effects of COVID on our operations. We wish Roger all the best.

The WVGS members who attended to celebrate with Roger were: Del Kunz, Ed and Liz Crabbe, Jill Mitchell, Stephanie Sparks, Patricia Bates, Charlie Mannino, Lou McLean, Peggy Morphew, Pam LaFond, Jim Weichel, Jerry Johnson, Diana Wittenberg, Dorrene Hern and virtually, Barbara and Susie Shroyer, Sandy Bauer, Chris Palmer, Adrienne Haupt, Sheri Erickson, and Janet Buchanan.

Roger Hanneman has been a member of WVGS since June 2, 1999 and has been a volunteer for 25 years. It was Roger who took on the responsibilities of leading the Computer Equipment Committee and became the Director. Roger also served as a Board member, and sat on the By-Laws Committee, and helped with the Long Range Planning Committees.

In 2001 the Library was moved to its current place and you can bet Roger was one of the active volunteers who assisted in the painting and acquiring of bookshelves, desks, file cabinets and of course, computers, printers, and copiers. It wasn’t until 2006 that the nine computer stations were set up with the desks and computers. That area of the Library was an expansion to the original building.

Roger’s partners in acquiring the equipment were Rich Sporski, Jim Sanders, John Davis, and many more.

Over the years Roger was the one who was sought out for his common-sense advice and a calm, reasonable ear to listen.
