Dorrene Hern – Nov 2022

The November 2022 Marie Beernink Volunteer Appreciation Award goes to Dorrene Hern, Editor, eNews.

She became interested in genealogy when her father wanted to find his father.…… and you know the story from there.

Dorrene was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota, after graduating from Central High School. She became interested in genealogy when her father wanted to find out more about HIS father. We all know how that goes, don’t we? Her grandfather was Romanian and had died young. Dorrene began researching those Romanian roots. She got to be so much of an expert that she co-founded the Romanian Genealogy Society of Minnesota, for which she still volunteers.

In 2018 Dorrene and her husband Tim retired to Surprise and eventually joined WVGS.

She eventually took on one of our key communication platforms, eNews, and has turned it into a much more professional and interesting publication, using colorful graphics, keeping an eye out for good content, and sharing it with other platforms. She is a valued CEC team member who contributes to more than just eNews. For example, she and Tim have temporarily taken over handling all the soda cans and water bottles we bring to each monthly meeting.

She is a valued CEC team member who contributes to much more than just eNews.

Thank you, Dorrene, for all you do.
