Sheri Erickson – Feb 2022

In February we honored someone who’s been willing to take on a variety of challenges during her winters (actually six months) here in AZ for the last 17 years.

She started in 2005 with the cleaning team and then added first attending and then facilitating the Swedish SIG for ten years. When she took on the role of 1st VP for two years it had the responsibility for both classes and speakers. She considered it her most difficult challenge.

She then added volunteering as an Aide and currently does two shifts per week.

If that wasn’t enough, she joined the Collection Development Committee where she works on donated collections and orders all the books we buy for the Library. Amongst other things, that involves talking to all of our 90 year old members (the ones willing to confess) because we buy a book of their choice for the Library, marking it with a special bookplate in their honor.

One more thing. She’s now leading the cleaning team, not because she wanted to but because we are down from two teams to one and no one else would do it.

Sheri Erickson lives in Iowa with her husband Paul the other six months of the year and has conveniently distributed her two daughters so one is here and one is in Iowa. She also has two grown grandchildren.

She only does genealogy here. When Sheri graduated from college, she became the county home economist and then, when the girls were small, got her teaching certificate and taught home economics at the high school and college level. Eventually she reinvented herself as an administrator at a residential care center before she finally “retired”.

When I asked her what the funniest thing that she’d ever done was, she said – “I’m not funny, just practical.”

WVGS is honored to have been on the receiving end of that practicality for the last 17 years and we hope she’ll be around for another 17.
