Title: Think Outside the Box & Make a Run for the Border

Can’t find your immigrant ancestors in the usual ship manifests? Maybe it’s time to look elsewhere. This presentation will explore St. Albans Lists and other border crossing records.

Handout will be provided later

Speaker: Marilyn Simleness

Marilyn has been interested in family history since her youth. She started doing genealogical research in 1980 as a hobbyist. In 2014 she began in-depth training in genealogical research practices, graduating from such programs as Boston University, ProGen, Gen-Fed, and five certificate programs with the National Institute of Genealogical Studies. She has also attended many local, regional, and national conferences and institutes.

She currently serves as a Temple & Family History Consultant for the Sun City West Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and as Chapter Vice-Regent for the White Tank Mountains chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. Marilyn served on the West Valley Genealogical Society board from January 2021 to July 2023. Besides continuing to search her own family, she gives genealogy lectures, teaches classes in genealogical methods and sources, helps individuals discover their ancestry, and enjoys every moment. Genealogy and Education are her two great passions.

Guidelines for dropping off Aluminum Cans/Clear Plastic Bottles:

  • Place aluminum cans and clear plastic-water/soda bottles in separate bags.
  • Cans do not have to be crushed, but should be rinsed and empty.
  • Water bottles can take up less room if they are smashed before putting the cap back onto the bottle.

Please, NO glass, prescription bottles, milk bottles, or food cans as these items need to be hand picked out. Also, NO bags with holes, as any item not rinsed may leak.
